The sign at the entrance to Chaco Canyon National Monument. There is very limited phone service in the canyon.

I drove 440 miles from Boise City, Oklahoma to Chaco Canyon National Monument in New Mexico today. The last 15 miles were on a minimally maintained washboardy rough gravel road that was nerve-wracking and overstimulating, so I was glad to park my trailer in a campsite and take a walk around the campground.
Can you find the campground on this map? (Look for a small black triangle with a pyramid shaped 'tent' inside it.)
The sky seems to go on forever here!
This small dwelling was on the trail on the side of the campground. It reminded me of the Cliff Dwellings.
In the alcove above the dwellings were the nests of swallows.

On this ledge above the cliff dwellings are some petroglyphs. Maybe you can make out the outline of a horse.
The campsites at the campground do not have electricity or water, but there is a clean restroom not far away. It doesn't have showers though!
This is the campground's public library! Campers are invited to donate, as well as take, books from it to read.
Sunset over the mesa behind the campground.
