11/17 Fall Canyon: Death Valley National Park, California

My friend, Walter, had lent us a book about the geology of Titus Canyon. The book made reference to Fall Canyon, just north of Titus Canyon. Bonnie read us the description and we decided to go there. Unlike Titus Canyon, to see Fall Canyon, you had to take a hike of about 5 miles roundtrip.
The hike to Fall Canyon was difficult because we were walking in gravel which felt a lot like walking in sand.
It was a hot day, so we were grateful to be hiking in the shade of the canyon walls. Can you see Carl in the distance?

Here's a picture of Carl resting in the canyon.

We saw contorted rock layers in Fall Canyon that reminded us of the rocks in Titus Canyon.

It was just as beautiful as Titus Canyon with many different colored rocks.

We were intrigued by that broken rock face again, but in Fall Canyon it also had these red and white volcanic intrusions!

See how amazing those designs are?
Fall Canyon is named after the hanging waterfall in the canyon. Here's Carl standing in front of it! Good thing it didn't have water in it! (Thanks to Bonnie and Carl for this photo. I didn't make it all the way to the hanging canyon.)
From the mouth of Fall Canyon, we could see Death Valley and the mountains beyond it!
