Friday, September 13, 2019 Ash Meadows: Spring Reservoir

At Ash Meadows the springs, as well as Crystal and Peterson Reservoir, provide a wetland habitat for migratory birds.

On a windy day, sitting on the shores of Crystal Reservoir listening to the wind and the waves.

This 'road" is actually the earthen dam that created Crystal Reservoir.  It's about two blocks long.
Crystal Reservoir is about 70 acres in size. You can see the Springs Mountains in the distance.

That's a Great Blue Heron fishing on the shores of Crystal Reservoir.
Now you can see it a little better.

Can you see the head and neck of the white egret?
Now you can see it a little better!
Now it is getting ready to spear a fish for dinner!

The water in Crystal Reservoir is very clear.

There is a lot of dissolved limestone in the water which reflects the sunlight and makes it crystal blue in color.

No fishing is allowed in Crystal Reservoir, but canoeing, kayaking and swimming are allowed.

Crystal Reservoir is open daily from sunrise to sunset.
